Work-related hand injuries remain a significant concern in the UK, impacting both individual workers and businesses. According to data from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and industry sources, here are key statistics highlighting the prevalence and consequences of hand injuries in the workplace:
In the 2023/24 reporting year, 23,113 RIDDOR-reported injuries affected the upper limbs, including fingers, thumbs, hands, wrists, and arms, accounting for 37% of all workplace injuries. Breakdown of injuries:
- 6,468 injuries to fingers or thumbs
- 4,418 wrist injuries
- 4,107 hand injuries
There are approximately 122,000 lacerations self-reported annually in Great Britain.
